Charlotte M. Graceffa, a longtime resident of Nashua and Hollis NH, died at home after enduring cancer for well over five years. She was born in Boston, MA on May 4, 1941, the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Troiani) Casale, and grew up in a close knit Italian-American community in East Boston. In 1963, she married John R. Graceffa, Jr.
Charlotte graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brighton, MA. Charlotte practiced and taught nursing for several years at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital while her husband completed dental school. After Dr. Graceffa set up practice in Nashua, Charlotte did office bookkeeping from home while raising their three children. During those years she was active as a volunteer with the YWCA and as a Girl Scout troop leader. As her husband’s dental practice grew and the children became older, Charlotte took on more responsibilities and worked full time as the office manager and insurance coordinator. The couple retired in 1997 and began to travel extensively, abroad, as well as visiting most parts of the USA by motor home. In retirement, Charlotte became a proficient and exacting quilter, whose work was admired for its precision and choice of sophisticated colors and patterns.
In addition to her husband, Charlotte is survived by her three children, Laura Graceffa and husband Mark Schlessman, of Poughkeepsie, NY, Paul Graceffa of Revere, MA, and Maria Graceffa Taylor and husband Patrick Taylor of Vienna, VA. She will also be missed by her four grandchildren, John Roy and Alan Schlessman and Amelia and Olivia Taylor, as well as her sister, Barbara Casale of Revere, MA. Charlotte was predeceased by her brother, Richard Casale of Hollis, NH. She will also be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charlotte’s memory to Home Health and Hospice, 7 Executive Park Dr. Merrimack, NH 03054.
